Welcome message from 2Respect Class Teacher, Miss Barron

Welcome to 2Respect! The adults in 2Respect are really excited and raring to go with learning this year. We look forward to witnessing your child's independence and resilience grow this year as they explore new and challenging activities. We have a very busy year but we cannot wait to share it with your enthusiastic children!

This term we are focusing on...

  • Place value in Maths
  • Traction Man in English
  • Materials in Science
  • The Great Fire of London in History
  • Christianity in R.E.

Year 2's P.E. days are Monday and Wednesday. This term, we are focusing on Dance on Mondays and Games on Wednesdays. A full P.E. kit will need to be in on these days. All children will need a white T-shirt, black shorts and pumps or trainers.

In Year 2, all children are expected to read at least 3 times per week. Reading records are checked daily by a member of the Year 2 team, so please ensure your child brings theirs in regularly.

Homework is set every Friday and is due on the following Tuesday. There will be an English and Maths task set which will follow on from what we have been learning in class. Please support your child if they are struggling to read or understand anything and do not hesitate to contact us, should you need more information. There are lots of websites to support with homework, such as:

Spellings are sent home every other Monday. We will be focusing on different spellings rules throughout the year and these will be detailed on spelling slips. The children have spelling books to practise their spellings in. Their books also have phonics mats and spelling mats to support. There are lots of websites to support with spellings and phonics, such as:

Lunch Time

At lunchtime, Year 2 will have a 10 minute playtime on KS2 playground from 11:50am til 12:00 noon. At 12:00, they will be called by the midday assistants to line up and will be taken into the dinner hall. Once they have eaten, the children will then play on the KS1 playground until 12:40pm.

Play Time Snack

Year 2 will be provided with fruit, raisins or milk as a morning snack during their playtime.

Parent Helpers

If you have a morning or afternoon free during the week, Year 2 are welcoming parent helpers to support children with their reading. We would be extremely grateful of any time that you are able to offer. If you would like to volunteer, please contact a member of the Year 2 team or the school office.
