Year 5 Class Information

Welcome message from Miss Cann and Miss Scott, Year 5 Teachers:

Welcome to Year 5. We have an action packed, fun-filled year ahead of us and we look forward to seeing what we can all achieve in the next 12 months. Keep checking back to see how we're getting on.

The staff in Year 5 are Miss Cann, Miss Scott, Mrs Driscoll, Mrs Preistley, Mrs Hardwick.

Important Information

The Year 5 day starts promptly at 8:30am when the gates open. The Year 5 day ends promptly at 3:05pm from the same coloured gates.

5 Believe uses the RED  GATE.

5 Respect uses the BLUE GATE.

Both gates will need to close promptly to allow social distancing between year group bubbles. If you are late and do not attend school you will be expected to engage with online learning.

We are operating staggered start and end times each day. Please avoid being close to school at any other time than this. If you are too early, please stand well away from school to avoid congestion and wait until your gate is due to open. If you are bringing children for different times, please move away from school in between times also. Please limit one adult to dropping/collecting children as stated by the Department for Education. This reduces the numbers around site.

Home Learning

In Year 5, we offer 3 live lessons per dayand a range of additional learning tasks onlinefor children at home. Our aim is to provide children learning at home the same opportunities and experiences that children in school will receive. Our live lessons are available on Microsoft Teams throughout the school dayand completed work should be uploaded to the dated assignment for the corresponding lesson. However, if a child misses the live session, they can access a recording of the lesson through their year group channel. We have a timetable for children at home to follow to give their day structure, know when our live sessions areand to complete the expected tasks. This is available on our Year 5 DB primary pageand in the files section on Teams.

Year 5 remote timetable

On days when you have PE – Physical Education lessons – we ask that you attends school wearing your PE kit with your school jumper. This is to minimise disruption to learning and to reduce risks linked to putting on and taking off clothes, with the possibility of misplacing items, and will mean PE kits can be washed more frequently at home.

PE kits consist of plain black shorts and a plain white t-shirt. You can wear plain dark coloured tracksuit bottoms or leggings also. You should wear their school jumper over the top of the t-shirt. You can come in wearing their black pumps or trainers for the day.

PE is on a Monday and Thursday

Additionally, we will be completing the ‘daily mile’ outside – a time spent running outside every day to promote physical activity. You can bring in trainers for this every day; if trainers are not sent in to school you will do this activity in your school shoes.

Reading at Home

It is important that Year 5 children read regularly at home - this is advised to be at least 4 times a week.

Homework & Spellings/Phonics

Homework will be given on Fridays and will be expected to be handed in on Wednesdays. This is assigned and submitted via Teams.

Spelling is expected to be done 3 times a week. The children need to write each of their spellings five times over.

Parents can sign to say that their child has been on Spelling Shed, as long as they have played a minimum of five games.

We will not be serving toast in a morning for children in Key Stage 2. Children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 are allowed to bring in a healthy snack, e.g. piece of fruit, cereal bar, to eat during their morning playtime. Please do not send in sweets/ chocolate etc.
Water bottles can be brought in and taken home each night for washing. Please make sure your bottle has your name clearly written on it.

We ask that NO CHOCOLATE OR NUTS are brought into school.

If your child brings grapes into school, please can you ensure that they are cut in half. This is to avoid choking.
