School Uniform
It is our school policy that all children wear school uniform when attending school, or when participating in a school-organised event outside of normal hours.
Our policy on school uniform is based on the notion that school uniform:
-
Promotes a sense of pride in the school
-
Engenders a sense of community and belonging towards the school
-
Is practical and smart
-
Identifies the children within the school
-
Makes children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance
-
Is regarded as suitable wear for school and good value for money
-
Is designed with health and safety in mind
It is expected that all children will come to the school every day in full, neat, clean uniform, giving the message that our children take pride in belonging to our school. The support of parents and carers in ensuring this is expected. Staff are required to ensure these standards from children at all times.
Jewellery
We do not allow our children to wear jewellery in our school. The exceptions to this rule are:
-
small stud earrings in pierced ears
-
a plain wristwatch
-
jewellery linked to medical reasons – parents/ carers are requested to provide this information in writing
- jewellery worn for religious reasons – parents/ carers are requested to provide this information in writing
Any jewellery worn for exceptional circumstances as outlined above is worn at the parents/carers discretion and should be age appropriate for the chid whilst engaged in their daily school activities.
On health and safety grounds, children should remove earrings for PE and should remove any other worn jewellery. If the child has recently pierced ears, they must be covered with a plaster (provided by parents or carers) during all PE activities.
Hair
Hair must be worn in an appropriate conventional style. Hair styles must be such that they can easily be kept neat and do not prevent students from participating effectively and safely in all school activities. The school actively discourages children from having ‘extreme’ haircuts that could serve as a distraction to other children or serve to undermine the ethos or discipline of the school. The dying of hair is discouraged, although hair dyed in natural colours is acceptable – other colours are not permitted.
Make up and nail varnish
Make up and nail varnish (including false nails) must not be worn in school.
Tattoos
Temporary tattoos should not be visible during term time.
Monitoring of this policy
The school retains the right to act as the final authority in the interpretation of this policy. If unsure, parents/ carers and children are advised to contact a senior member of staff for clarification before purchasing an item.
The school’s senior leadership team will challenge lack of adherence to this policy in a way considered by them to be appropriate to the child’s stage of development.
Occasionally, parents or carers may make a temporary request for exemption from this policy, e.g. adjustment following injury, awaiting new items. This should be made to the child’s class teacher in the first instance.
Should a child persistently present in school not wearing school uniform, without the agreement of the Headteacher, the Headteacher will write to the parents/carers requesting that the correct uniform is used, or a meeting is convened to discuss this. Where a parent or carer refuses to support the school policy, the school may take additional measures in line with the school’s behaviour policy or LA guidance.
Our school uniform
Early Years Foundation Stage – Nursery |
The children in Nursery may wear their own clothes or the uniform outlined below. If wearing their ‘own’ clothes, i.e. everyday home clothes, please make sure that they do not come to school in any ‘best’ outfits as they are engaged in creative play every day and also spend a lot of time outdoors. Their clothing should allow them to move freely and not have anything that could be a risk to them, e.g. long cords around hooded tops. The Nursery staff will advise on this. Sensible footwear is essential. All children need a coat. |
Early Years Foundation Stage –Reception |
Sensible footwear is essential for the children - either black trainers or black school shoes. All children need an appropriate coat. |

PE/ Swimming kit for Reception to Year 6 |
|
All items of clothing should be labelled with your child’s name. PE kits should be kept in a suitable bag in school on the child’s peg.
Footwear
The school wants all children to grow into healthy adults. We believe that it is appropriate for children to wear flat shoes (no platform soles, high heels or straps). Children should wear plain black school shoes. They should not wear trainers for school; we believe that this footwear is appropriate for sport or for leisurewear, but is not in keeping with the smart appearance of a school uniform. As the children are very active all day in our Early Years Foundation Stage, we do permit our youngest learners to wear black training shoes in Reception.
We require all children to wear shoes as stated in the uniform list.
Some children choose to change into trainers during playtime and lunchtime if playing on the MUGA. This is permitted so long as the children change back into shoes in time for lesson time.
Please see the policy below for further information about our school uniform.
The main supplier for School Uniform is Touchline. They provide uniform with the school's badge on.
Please download and use the form below to order uniform from Touchline. The direct telephone number for Touchline is on the form, but please do not hesitate to contact school if you have any questions.
Touchline Uniform order for Reception from September 2014
Uniform purchased via the above supplier, or another supplier, will have the school's badge on it. Children may wear plain uniform without the badge on it, which can be purchased from many school uniform suppliers and supermarkets.
Children should wear appropriate shoes for school rather than trainers. Schools should be one dark colour and fasten securely to your child's feet.
